SWEET! Creative Ideas for Using All That Candy (versus EATING all that candy)
Today Show and All You magazine came up with some devilishly clever ideas to keep some of that candy from your sugar monster and make it fun! Here are the best ones.
(1) www.Halloweencandybuyback.com Dentists in around the country will buy back candy for $1 a pound send it to our troops! Your little one can then go to the dollar store go shopping. The only dentist registered in this area is :
W. Forrest Bryant DMDBryant Aesthetic Dentistry,
(2) The Switch Witch - Start a new family tradition. If they believe the tooth fair takes teeth and leaves money why not a good witch that takes candy left out and leaves a present?
(3) Make and Advent Calendar - Buy a plastic shoe organizer, the kind with pockets that goes on a closet door. Kids can decorate 25 pockets and put a piece of candy in each pocket. You could even use the fronts of old Christmas cards to slip into the pockets to hide the candy. Then use glitter pens or paint pens or vinyl numbers to stick on the pockets.
(4) Make and Ice Cream Pie - Pick out some candy bars, like snickers, and chop them up. Mix with softened ice cream and fill a graham cracker crust. Pop it in the freezer and savor Halloween fun and memories next time you need a dessert!Watch the

Happy Halloween!

With days getting shorter and darker you may be mourning the loss of daylight and dreading the dark mornings. Learn more about the Sun at “The Sun, An Important Star” - a Von Braun Astronimical Society Presentation for the whole family.
Nov. 1 and Nov. 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: VBAS Planetarium, www.VBAS.org
November’s family-friendly presentation will discuss our Sun which is an average, active, evolving star.
The presentation will include some of the latest data from solar satellites such as Hindoe as we explore sunspot cycles, why some magnetic loops explode and others do not, and why the upper layer of the solar atmosphere, known as the corona, is hotter than the lowest layer closer to the Sun’s surface.
Weather permitting, you’ll be viewing the night sky afterwards through one of VBAS’s powerful telescopes too.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008
Time: 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Where: Burritt on the Mountain
Cost: Included with regular admission
Teach your kids about olden days. They probably can’t imagine not popping something into a microwave piping hot bag of popcorn or bowl of soup in just seconds. You know, however, that wasn’t always the case. Inmy case it was int he 80’s when I was in High school before our house had a microwave and it needed it’s own giant cart to fit in our kitchen. Boy times have changed.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., explore the cooking habits of early settlers and learn how to cook with homemade pots and pans over and open fire. The yummy smells will fill the mountain. And, who knows? You may just become an Open Hearth chef and your kids might be more likely to help you in the kitchen, maybe.
